Bestandsgeschichte: Das Hessische Hauptstaatsarchiv bewahrt Archivalien von über 500 Städten und Gemeinden seines Sprengels auf. Der überwiegende Teil des Bestandes wurde in den Jahren 1934-1937 übernommen. Eine Verfügung des Regierungspräsidenten in Wiesbaden vom 10.8.1934 bestimmte, dass hauptsächlich Amtsbücher, die vor der Einführung der Stockbücher im Herzogtum Nassau, also vor 1851, entstanden waren, durch Aufbewahrung im zuständigen Staatsarchiv vor Verlust geschützt werden sollten.
