Vorwort Peter Lankes (3.8.1877-1.7.1954) war vom 1.4.1914 bis zum 31.3.1934 Hauptlehrer bzw. Rektor der katholischen Volksschule Schultheißenhof in Viersen, von 1922 bis 1933 auch Vorsitzender der Viersener Zentrumspartei.Als er sich nach der Machtergreifung der Nationalsozialisten weigerte, der N.S.D.A.P. beizutreten, wurde er nach Duisburg-Laar zwangsversetzt und zum Volksschullehrer degradiert. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg berief ihn Regierungspräsident Sträter mit Zustimmung der Militärregierung als Schulrat nach Viersen, wo er am 23.7.1945 die Geschäfte von Schulrat Salzberger übernahm. Seine endgültige Ernennung erfolgte am 30.10.1946 rückwirkend zum 1.8.1946. Am 22.8.1948 konnte er (im Alter von 71 Jahren) sein 50jähriges Lehrerjubiläum begehen und trat am 30.9.1949 in den Ruhestand. Er war Träger des päpstlichen Ordens PRO ECCLESIA ET PONTIFICE sowie des Hohen Ordens vom hl. Sebastian (LAV NRW Hauptstaatsarchiv Düsseldorf BR-Pe 2298).
