Inhalt und Bewertung
Der Kanton gliederte sich in die Bezirke Hegau und Allgäu-Bodensee. Der Bezirk Hegau führte in Radolfzell die Kantonsdirektorialkanzlei, deren Schriftgut heute hauptsächlich im Generallandesarchiv Karlsruhe verwahrt wird. Kanzleisitz des Bezirks Allgäu-Bodensee war Wangen im Allgäu. Das dort entstandene Archiv wurde 1807-1808 von Bayern nach Kempten , später nach Neuburg an der Donau verbracht.
Der vorliegende Bestand enthält daher nur die später im Staatsarchiv Ludwigsburg eingekommenen Archivalien beider Kanzleien betreffend württtembergische Familien und Orte, darunter eine größere Gruppe von Akten des 18.Jahrhunderts betreffen die Herrschaft Mühlheim an der Donau durch den Kantonsbezirk Hegau (68 Büschel).
Archivalien aus der Kanzlei Wangen auch im Fürstlich-Waldburg-Zeilschen Archiv auf Schloß Zeil, Bestand Ratzenried (Vgl. Württembergische Archivinventare 24, 1953, S. 57 und 229-250).
Archivalien gleicher Provenienz im Bayerischen Hauptstaatsarchiv und im Staatsarchiv Augsburg wurden 1997 im Rahmen des bayerisch-baden-württembergischen Beständeausgleichs an das Hauptstaatsarchiv Stuttgart übergeben (siehe B 574Au und B 574M).
The Bundeszentralkartei (BZK) is the central register of the federal government and federal states for completed compensation proceedings. When a claim is entered into the BZK, a number is assigned for unique identification. This BZK number refers to a compensation claim, not to a person. If a person has made several claims (e.g. for themselves and for relatives), each claim generally has its own BZK number. Often, the file number of the respective compensation authority is used as the BZK number.
This number is important for making an inquiry to the relevant archive.

In the sources, the persecutee is sometimes referred to as ‘Geschädigter’ (aggrieved party) and the applicant as ‘Anspruchsberechtigter’(claimant).
