Wilhelm Stamm wurde 1949 in Mannheim-Seckenheim geboren. Ab 1980 war er Mitglied der 1979 gegründeten Aktionsgemeinschaft "Viernheimer Wald". In den Jahren 1984 und 1985 war er als Sprecher der Bürgerinitiative tätig. 1994 erhielt Stamm den Bergsträßer Umweltschutzpreis. In der Zeit vom 23.01.1998 bis 30.04.1999 oblag ihm das Amt des Umweltdezernenten der Stadt Viernheim. Zur Geschichte des "Panzerwaldes": Die "Aktionsgemeinschaft Wald" wurde 1979 mit dem Ziel gegründet, die Vernichtung von über 1.000 ha Fläche im Viernheimer / Lampertheimer "Panzerwald" zu verhindern. Die zentralen Forderungen waren: Die Ausweitung der militärischen Nutzung des Waldes zu stoppen und den Wald als Erholungsgebiet für die Bevölkerung zu erhalten. Am 17.12.1984 erfolgte die (Neu-) Gründung als Bürgerinitiative "Gegen den Panzerwald".
