Der Bestand umfasst über 1600 mittelalterliche und frühneuzeitliche Urkunden aus dem Stadtarchiv Kempen. Häufigste Aussteller sind die Kempener Schöffen und der Erzbischof von Köln als Landesherr.Herausragende Stücke sind das älteste Archivale im Kreisarchiv, eine Urkunde Erzbischof Heinrichs von Köln von 1233 (KAV, C 1, K 1), die sog. Kempener Stadterhebungsurkunde Erzbischof Siegfrieds von Köln von 1294 (KAV, C 1, Ü 1), eine Urkunde Papst Julius' II. von 1509 (KAV, C 1, Ü 66) sowie weitere Papst- und Königsurkunden.Bestandsgeschichte:Die Urkunden wurden zunächst im alten Rathaus verwahrt und befanden sich seit der Einrichtung des Stadtarchivs in demselben. 1961 wurden zwölf Urkunden vom Hauptstaatsarchiv Düsseldorf übernommen. 1984 konnte die im Zweiten Weltkrieg in die USA gebrachte sog. Stadterhebungsurkunde von 1294 zurückgekauft werden. Mit dem Stadtarchiv Kempen kamen die Urkunden 1984/85 ins Kreisarchiv.

The Bundeszentralkartei (BZK) is the central register of the federal government and federal states for completed compensation proceedings. When a claim is entered into the BZK, a number is assigned for unique identification. This BZK number refers to a compensation claim, not to a person. If a person has made several claims (e.g. for themselves and for relatives), each claim generally has its own BZK number. Often, the file number of the respective compensation authority is used as the BZK number.
This number is important for making an inquiry to the relevant archive.
