Der Pianist Wilhelm Backhaus wurde am 26.03.1884 in Leipzig geboren. Als
Schüler von E. D´Albert begann er früh seine bis ins hohe Alter fortgesetzten Konzertreisen, die ihn durch Europa, Amerika und Australien führten. Er war zeitweise in London, Salzburg, Köln und seit 1933 in Lugano ansässig. Backhaus wurde als Beethoven- und Brahms Interpret weltberühmt. Der Pianist starb am 5.7.1969 in Villach, Österreich.
Bei dem hier im Historischen Archiv der Stadt Köln verwahrten Bestand handelt es sich um einen kleinen fragmentarischen Teilnachlaß, vorwiegend jener Dokumente, die in seinem ehemaligen Kölner Wohnhaus in der Wilhelm Backhausstraße erhalten geblieben sind. Der weitaus größere Teil des echten Nachlasses lagert im Stadtarchiv Salzburg sowie in der Obhut seiner ehemaligen Sekretärin und Nichte Frau Ilse Herz in Lugano.
Die hier befindlichen Dokumente und Sammlungen von Wilhelm Backhaus sind im Dezember 1998 unter der Signatur: Bestand 1588 archiviert worden. Er umfasst 42 Nummern, wobei Nummer 36 nicht belegt ist, aus den Jahren 1900 - 1960, die in 7 Kartons magaziniert sind. Ein großer Teil des Bestandes besteht aus Fotos, Schallplatten und Tonbändern. Archivalien können zur Einsicht im Lesesaal bestellt werden unter Angabe der Bestandsnummer und der gewünschten laufenden Nummer.
Das vorliegende Findbuch wurde im Juli 1999 von Archivinspektoranwärter Thomas Müller erstellt.
The Bundeszentralkartei (BZK) is the central register of the federal government and federal states for completed compensation proceedings. When a claim is entered into the BZK, a number is assigned for unique identification. This BZK number refers to a compensation claim, not to a person. If a person has made several claims (e.g. for themselves and for relatives), each claim generally has its own BZK number. Often, the file number of the respective compensation authority is used as the BZK number.
This number is important for making an inquiry to the relevant archive.
