Geschichte des Bestandsbildners: Das Justizamt Fronhausen wurde im Zuge der Trennung von Justiz und Verwaltung zum 1. Januar 1822 aus den bisherigen Ämtern Fronhausen und Treis an der Lumda sowie dem Gericht Nordeck errichtet (kurh. GS 1821, S. 29, 69). Für die letzteren beiden Gebiete wurde in Treis ein Assistenzamt eingerichtet (Nordeck, Treis an der Lumda, Wemertshausen, Winnen). Dieser Bezirk wurde zum 15. Januar 1832 zum selbstständigen Justizamt erhoben.
Nach der Annexion Kurhessens durch Preußen wurde das Justizamt Fronhausen in „Amtsgericht Fronhausen“ umbenannt. Zum 12. September 1867 wurden nach dem Friedensschluss zwischen Preußen und Hessen-Darmstadt bei der Auslösung des Justizamts Treis an der Lumda dessen Gemeinden zugeteilt.
Im Jahr 1943 wurde der Rechtsbetrieb kriegsbedingt ausgesetzt. Nach der Wiederaufnahme der Rechtspflege nach Kriegsende 1945 wurde das Amtsgericht Fronhausen nicht wiedereröffnet. Odenhausen und Salzböden wurden dem Bezirk des Amtsgerichts Wetzlar zugeschlagen, die übrigen Gemeinden gingen im Bezirk des Amtsgerichts Marburg auf.
