Errichtung: 1804 "In einer Urkunde der Abtei Kornelimünster wird "Bredenich" 1303 zum ersten Mal genannt, als Franco von Venwegen die Sicherheit eines Verkaufs mit seinem Breiniger Eisenzehnten verbürgte. Die Pfarrkirche für den Ort war die St. Stephanuskirche in Kornelimünster. Nach Aufhebung der Abtei erhob Bischof Berdolet von Aachen 1804 die Breiniger Barbarakapelle zur Sukkursale (= Pfarrkirche) im Kanton Burtscheid. 1827 kam die Pfarre zum Dekanat Burtscheid im wiedererrichteten Erzbistum Köln. Dieses Dekanat wurde am 10. August 1900 in Dekanat Kornelimünster umbenannt, nachdem Burtscheid Aachen zugewiesen worden war. Infolge der kommunalen Neuorganisation wurde mit Datum vom 30. August 1973 Breinig Pfarre im neuen Dekanat Stolberg-Süd, seit 1995 wieder Dekanat Stolberg." Aus: Handbuch des Bistums Aachen.
