HJ 23-8a-1 ist ein Sonderdruck von "Philosophical Reflections on Experimenting with Human Subjects" aus Daedalus 98 (1969). Bei HJ 23-8a-2 handelt es sich um einen masch. Notizzettel, der eine Verwendung von Kopien des Manuskriptes "Against the Stream" dokumentiert. HJ 23-8a-3 ist die Kopie eines hs. ergänzten Typoskriptes, in dem Hans Jonas Kommentare zu Entgegnungen vermutlich zu seinem Vortrag "Philosophical Reflections on Experimenting with Human Subjects" bei der American Academy of Arts and Sciences in Boston festhält. HJ 23-8a-4 enthält in Kopieform Typoskriptmaterial mit weiteren Bezugnahmen auf Hans Jonas von Referenten dieser Konferenz, von Samuel L. Kountz, Herbert A. Perkins, Rose Payne und Folkert O. Belzer sowie von Otto E. Guttentag. Bei HJ 23-8a-5 handelt es sich um den Ausschnitt aus einer Zeitschrift mit einer Karikatur. HJ 23-8a-6 enthält einen hs. Brief vom 3.8.1970 von Paul Ramsey, den hs. Entwurf zu einer Antwort und eine masch. Adreßkarte von Ramsey. HJ 23-8a-8 ist der Durchschlag eines masch. Briefes vom 25.7.1970 an Reverend Charles Carroll, HJ 23-8a-9 die Kopie eines masch. Briefes von Guttentag vom 8.9.1970 an Guttentag. HJ 23-8a-10 enthält einen masch. Brief vom 11.7.1970 von Reverend Carroll und einen weiteren Durchschlag des Jonas-Briefes vom 25.7.1970. HJ 23-8a-11 ist ein hs. Brief vom 29.6.1970 von Carroll. HJ 23-8b-1 enthält einen Durchschlag des Typoskriptes "Against the Stream, Postscript of December 1976" (2 Seiten) und ein Blatt mit hs. Korrekturen. Bei HJ 23-8b-2 handelt es sich um einen masch. Brief vom 14.2.1977 von Caryl S. Avery von der Zeitschrift Man und Medicine mit der Bitte ein Buch zu rezensieren. Hans Jonas hat den hs. Entwurf zu einer abschlägigen Antwort auf dem Brief notiert. HJ 23-8a-3 enthält drei masch. Briefe aus dem Zeitraum 19.5.1977 bis 15.1.1979 von Bonnie Baya vom Hastings Center, jeweils mit der Bitte den 1974 publizierten Artikel "Against the Stream" in einer Auflage von 1000 Stück vervielfältigen zu dürfen. Jonas hat sich den Text seiner Antwort jeweils auf dem Brief notiert, in einem Fall auf einem beigegebenen Zettel. HJ 23-8b-4 enthält Korrespondenz mit John E. Thomas den Wiederabdruck von "Against the Stream" betreffend. Die Korrespondenz erstreckt sich über den Zeitraum 21.3.1977 bis 15.3.1978. HJ 23-8b-5 enthält Korrespondenz mit Tom L. Beauchamp, ebenfalls den Wiederabdruck von "Against the Stream" betreffend. Der Zeitraum der Korrespondenz ist 10.6.1977 bis 16.6.1978. HJ 23-8b-7 ist ein hs. verbessertes Typoskript von "Against the Stream" mit "Postscript of December 1976". Bei HJ 23-8b-6 handelt es sich um den Durchschlag einer Seite mit Anmerkungen zu "Against the Stream". Die Seite zeigt die Seitenzahl 106, ist also offenbar einem größen Zusammenhang entnommen. Sie enthält Veränderungen, die in die Version in HJ 23-8b-6 hs. eingetragen sind.
