Vorwort: Viola Elisabeth Draheim wurde am 31. Oktober 1941 in Berlin geboren. Nach dem Abitur 1962 begann sie zunächst eine Lehre, bevor sie ab 1963 als bibliothekarische Hilfskraft in der Staatsbibliothek Unter den Linden arbeitete.
Im Oktober 1963 versuchte Viola Draheim gemeinsam mit zwei Freundinnen, nach West-Berlin zu fliehen. Sie wurden gefasst und zu Gefängnisstrafen auf Bewährung verurteilt.
1966 beendete Viola Draheim eine Lehre als Einzelhandelskaufmann und arbeitete 1967/68 als technische Hilfskraft im Institut für deutsche Sprache und Literatur der Deutschen Akademie der Wissenschaften an der Edition der Forster-Ausgabe mit. 1972 konnte sie ihr Studium an der Humboldt-Universität als Diplomhistorikerin und Diplombibliothekarin abschließen. Danach arbeitete sie an verschiedenen Instituten der Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR.
Im Juli 1977 stellte Viola Draheim einen Ausreiseantrag, der im Dezember 1979 genehmigt wurde. Über das Notaufnahmelager Marienfelde reiste sie aus der DDR aus und nahm ihren Wohnsitz in West-Berlin, wo sie zeitweise wieder als Bibliothekarin arbeitete.
Viola Draheim übergab ihre Unterlagen 1996 dem Landesarchiv Berlin.

Familienstammbuch, Eheurkunde der Eltern, Ausreise aus der DDR).- Persönliche Dokumente (Zeugnisse, Arbeitsverträge, Bescheinigungen, Strafverfahren).- Teilnahme an Veranstaltungen des Frauenprojektes Raupe und Schmetterling der Freien Universität Berlin, 1993/94.- Schriften und Manuskripte.- Ausgehende Korrespondenz.
The Bundeszentralkartei (BZK) is the central register of the federal government and federal states for completed compensation proceedings. When a claim is entered into the BZK, a number is assigned for unique identification. This BZK number refers to a compensation claim, not to a person. If a person has made several claims (e.g. for themselves and for relatives), each claim generally has its own BZK number. Often, the file number of the respective compensation authority is used as the BZK number.
This number is important for making an inquiry to the relevant archive.

In the sources, the persecuted person is sometimes referred to as ‘Geschädigter’ (aggrieved party) and the applicant as ‘Anspruchsberechtigter’(claimant).
