Die Kammer wurde 1900 durch gesetzliche Verordnung als Handwerkskammer für den westlichen Teil des Regierungsbezirks Arnsberg gegründet. Sie umfaßt heute die Kreishandwerkerschaften von Bochum, Dortmund-Lünen, Hagen, Hamm, Herne, Soest-Lippstadt, Unna, Witten (für den Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis). 6 m Die ältere Registratur wurde durch Bombenschäden 1944 vernichtet. Der Bestand umfaßt die beiden ältesten erhaltenen Aktenschichten aus der Zeit nach 1945. Satzungen, Wahlen 1949-1956 (4); Vorstand 1946-1967 (3); Berichte und Statistiken 1945-1964 (6); Innungswesen 1945-1964 (11); Westdeutscher Handwerkskammertag 1950-1968 (4); Innungsverbände 1953-1969 (2); Zentralverband des Deutschen Handwerks 1955-1969 (7); Bildungswesen 1940-1969 (13). Gewerberecht, Wettbewerbsordnung 1935-1971 (6); Wohnungsbau 1953-1974 (4); Genossenschaften 1950-1971 (2); Altersversorgung 1956-1962 (5); Tarifangelegenheiten 1956-1962 (5).
