Vorwort: E Rep. 400-78 Nachlass Maria Geremek
Maria Geremek wurde am 24.08.1895 in als 5. Kind des Landarbeiters Johann Geremek und seiner Frau Cäcilie geb. Litschakowskaja geboren. Die Familie zog arbeitsbedingt häufig um. Marie Geremek ging in Scharnikau zur Schule. 1910 ging sie nach Berlin, wo sie u.A. als Krankenpflegerin arbeitete. 1922 legte sie ihr Staatsexamen als Krankenschwester ab. In der Folge arbeitete sie in verschiedenen Berliner Krankenhäusern sowie in Beelitz und in Herzberge. 1928 kam ihre Tochter Judith zur Welt. 1939 heiratete sie Eugen Backhaus, und in dem Jahr bekam das Paar eine Tochter, Eva-Maria. 1942 zog die Familie nach Solingen. Maria Backhaus starb dort am 30.09.1981.
Der Nachlass von Maria Geremek wurde dem Landesarchiv 2019 von der Tochter Eva-Maria Huhn übergeben. Er umfasst 4 AE (0,15 lfm.)
The Bundeszentralkartei (BZK) is the central register of the federal government and federal states for completed compensation proceedings. When a claim is entered into the BZK, a number is assigned for unique identification. This BZK number refers to a compensation claim, not to a person. If a person has made several claims (e.g. for themselves and for relatives), each claim generally has its own BZK number. Often, the file number of the respective compensation authority is used as the BZK number.
This number is important for making an inquiry to the relevant archive.

In the sources, the persecuted person is sometimes referred to as ‘Geschädigter’ (aggrieved party) and the applicant as ‘Anspruchsberechtigter’(claimant).
