Vorwort: 1. Biographie
Paul Emil Wittig wurde am 7. März 1853 in Fraustadt (Grenzmark) geboren. Nach dem Abitur 1872 studierte er bis 1876 an der Berliner Bauakademie und legte 1877 die erste und 1887 die zweite Staatsprüfung ab.
Zunächst als Regierungsbaumeister beim Magistrat von Berlin beschäftigt, erfolgte 1889 seine Versetzung zum Bau des Reichstagsgebäudes, wo er von 1892 bis 1897 als Mitarbeiter der Reichstags-Bauverwaltung mit Verantwortung für die Inneneinrichtung tätig war.
Bei Gründung der Gesellschaft für elektrische Hoch- und Untergrundbahnen in Berlin (Hochbahngesellschaft) 1897 durch die Deutsche Bank und die Fa. Siemens & Halske wurde er alleiniges Vorstandsmitglied und war seit 1913 Vorsitzender des Direktoriums. Er begleitete das Unternehmen bis 1929, als es nach der Vereinigung mit der Straßenbahngesellschaft und der Omnibusgesellschaft zur Berliner Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft (BVG) im Jahre 1928 liquidiert wurde.
Paul Wittig verstarb am 12. März 1943.
2. Bestandsbeschreibung
Der Bestand wurde im Landesarchiv 1984 formiert.

The Bundeszentralkartei (BZK) is the central register of the federal government and federal states for completed compensation proceedings. When a claim is entered into the BZK, a number is assigned for unique identification. This BZK number refers to a compensation claim, not to a person. If a person has made several claims (e.g. for themselves and for relatives), each claim generally has its own BZK number. Often, the file number of the respective compensation authority is used as the BZK number.
This number is important for making an inquiry to the relevant archive.

In the sources, the persecuted person is sometimes referred to as ‘Geschädigter’ (aggrieved party) and the applicant as ‘Anspruchsberechtigter’(claimant).
