Seit 1866 pflegt George Sand eine enge Brieffreundschaft mit Gustave Flaubert. Sie berichtet ihm auch von den alltäglichen Sorgen und Nöten. So klagt sie über ihren Schlafmangel, da sie sich um Kinder und Enkel kümmern muss. Ebenso versteht sie aber auch die Gedankenwelt eines Schriftstellers und wünscht Flaubert Kraft für das neue Jahr und seine Arbeit.
