Enthält: Franz Joseph Ritter v.Gerstner (1756-1832) wurde 1782 bei der Sternwarte in Wien und 1784 beim Observatorium in Prag angestellt. 1789 Professor für Mathematik in Prag, 1795 Beisitzer der Studienrevisionscommission in Wien. 1811 Direktor der Wasserbaudirektion in Böhmen. Das "Handbuch der Mechanik" erschien in Prag zwischen 1831-1838 in 2 Bänden. Sein Sohn Franz Anton (1793-1840) wurde 1818 Professor der Geometrie am Wiener Polytechnischen Institut, ging dann nach England um das Eisenbahnwesen zu studieren, machte Vorarbeiten zum Bau einer schon von seinem Vater projektierten Moldau-Donaubahn, baute auch einen Teil derselben, trat aber wegen Meinungsverschiedenheiten mit den Aktionären zurück, ging nach wiederholtem Aufenthalte in England 1834 nach Petersburg und baute die erste von Zarskoje-Selo nach Petersburg führende Eisenbahn, ging 1838 nach Nord-Amerika und starb 1840 in New York. Er gab eine zweite Auflage von seines Vaters "Handbuch der Mechanik" um einen 3. und 4. Band vermehrt heraus.
