Am 1. Juni 1906 wurde das Amtsgericht Schöneberg in dem 1901 bis 1906 erbauten Dienstgebäude in der Grunewaldstraße mit zunächst 25 Zivilabteilungen eingerichtet. Davor, von 1879 an, gehörte die Gemeinde Schöneberg zum Sprengel des Amtsgerichts II. Es unterstand von 1906 bis 1933 dem Landgericht Berlin II und ab 1933 dem Landgericht Berlin.
Die Akten des Amtsgerichts Schöneberg gelangten seit Ende der 50er Jahre des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts in das Landesarchiv Berlin. Aufgrund seines Umfangs wird der Bestand in mehrere Teilbestände gegliedert, deren Abgrenzung zur Zeit noch andauert.
The Bundeszentralkartei (BZK) is the central register of the federal government and federal states for completed compensation proceedings. When a claim is entered into the BZK, a number is assigned for unique identification. This BZK number refers to a compensation claim, not to a person. If a person has made several claims (e.g. for themselves and for relatives), each claim generally has its own BZK number. Often, the file number of the respective compensation authority is used as the BZK number.
This number is important for making an inquiry to the relevant archive.

In the sources, the persecutee is sometimes referred to as ‘Geschädigter’ (aggrieved party) and the applicant as ‘Anspruchsberechtigter’(claimant).
